There was another Bat Garrett novel that was always in my head but I never could get started on it. Chronologically, it fit in between the first and second books–and was even referenced in book two (“The Return of the Nice Guy”)–but every start on it would falter.

And then, recently, I was preparing “The Nice Guy” for publication (it’s available now!) and going through that book again suddenly made all the pieces click for me. Hence, over the last week I have been writing on “The Last At Bat” (working title) and it’s coming along very well. Working on it has also inspired me for that new Garison Fitch novel I’ve been blogging about. Let’s hope this is a “new season of creativity” I’m entering into now!

P.S. We’re learning a lot about Jody in this new book and I’m reminded over and over how much I have always loved her. Writing about Bat and Jody again has been like getting together with great friends you haven’t seen in years but everything clicks just like it used to.
